Pernille Hagemann
I had worked five years for KJ Industries when, one day, I discovered that I was close to ”the wall” – the limit had been reached for personal and professional challenges in my job.
Basically, I was pleased with my work in the linguistic department, and I had used my education (authorized translator) to a degree, which I could only have hoped for. Travelling, contact with other people and professionally interesting tasks had formed part of my workday for several years. But recently I had discovered that I needed more. I had not studied all these years just to stand still on the job market. Therefore, I was now on the lookout for new tasks and responsibilities.

The idea of leaving the company did cross my mind, but before it came that far, I wanted to find out if there was any chance of changing my present job. In order to do so, I had to climb another wall - my own mental barrier. Would I be able to approach the manager and ask for changes?
After the years in the linguistic department I was pretty aware of the customers’ demands, and I had specific ideas as to how I could contribute to a better solution of the tasks in the company with me in another position. Then one day I took a deep breath, knocked on the manager’s door and presented my ideas and wishes.
The manager took a close look at me, and eventually I was pretty nervous about the reaction. Then he simply asked: ”Why did you not speak up earlier?”, after which I was sent back to my desk to define my new job as a project coordinator.
In this way I think that KJ Industries is an interesting workplace, where I have the possibility of affecting my own work. If you show commitment and responsibility, the company will also support your wishes for personal development.
